Architecture Is a Tool to Improve Lives
Regular price $57.99 Save $-57.99(English,
French, German)
“Perfection blocks any form of
participation and also causes an excessive consumption of resources.” In “Form
Follows Love”, Anna Heringer describes her understanding of architecture.
For her new book, she traveled to Bangladesh with Iwan Baan to visit the buildings created there as well as her women's empowerment project, Dipdii Textiles.
Dutch photographer Iwan Baan is best known for his images that show life and interactions in architecture. In Bangladesh, he created intense and sensual images that, between documentation and art, bear witness to what architecture can achieve when it is not about representation but about social benefit.
The book also includes Baan's pictures of Heringer's latest buildings in Europe.
- The complementary photobook to Form Follows Love
- METI School, DESI Center, kindergartens, birthplace in Hittisau etc.
- New, previously unpublished photos

Form Follows Love (Deutsche Ausgabe)
According to Anna Heringer, "Beauty has nothing to do with money or finance, but everything to do with creativity and love". With statements like this she clearly has her finger on the pulse of our time, judging by the packed lecture halls, international awards such as the 2007 Aga Kahn Award or the 2020 OBEL Award, and exhibitions at MoMA, MAM Sao Paulo, and the Venice Biennale.
In Form Follows Love, Anna Heringer talks to author Dominique Gauzin-Müller about her career as an architect, her studies, her experiences during a workshop by Martin Rauch, her practice in the Global South, and current projects in the Global North.
She shares with us the insight that clay is not only an environmentally friendly material, but in the best cases it can even trigger socially beneficial processes.
- Essential text describing the work of Anna Heringer, an architect specialized in clay
- How architecture can have a positive impact on the environment and society
- Building with local resources to maintain ecological balance
