The issue includes contributions and visual essays as reports from teaching activities, realized or planned architectural projects, theoretical reflections on the topic, and the critical depiction of case studies, all of which concur to the definition of new roles and modes of practice, addressing the significance of collaborations in architectural design.

Architecture in Times of Multiple Crises
Regular price $55.00 Save $-55.00Under the premise that architecture makes life ›better‹, architecture is often presented as the ›solution‹ to social problems, made ›green‹ when promising sustainable futures, or fetishised as a cultural object for the creation of urban identities. Yet, what is it exactly that links architecture so closely to the pursuit of a good life? How is this link interrelated with crisis and crisis thinking? To what extent do belief systems in architecture influence its capacity to deal with crises? Carolina Crijns not only explores the transformative potential in radically rethinking architecture's central concepts but introduces a method of utopian speculation for practices ambitious of social change.
With a preface by Sabine Knierbein.

São Paulo Heterotopia
Regular price $40.00 Save $-40.00Public and private, traffic and open space, planned and spontaneous – our idea of a city is characterised by opposites. However, the contributors to this bilingual book show that these poles can also be consciously connected. The urban building blocks from São Paolo present surprisingly idiosyncratic city scenes: People dancing along the motorway, strolling through the stone archipelago, splashing around in front of the city skyline…
Many of the case studies are linked to the ideas of the Brazilian urban planner Francisco Prestes Maia. As early as in the 1930s, he developed concepts that combine traffic, open space and architecture – a surprisingly contemporary approach.

Dimensions Issue 02/2021, edited by Katharina Voigt and Virginie Roy, investigates lived experience as source for the constitution of knowledge. This edition is concerned with the movements of exploration and the inner sensations of being moved by experience. Addressing situational experience allows bringing implicit dimensions of perception to attention, enabling a tangible understanding to emerge – for the actual encounter, as well as connected to memory and imagination. Practitioners and scholars from various disciplines open the realm for theoretical, applied and practice-related forms of research, whilst all contributions are aligned to enrich the discourse of architecture and its versatile dimensions.

This pioneering collection gives an overview of contemporary developments in designing video games and of the relationships such practices have established with the design of architecture. Due to their often simulatory nature, games reveal constructions of reality while positively impacting spatial ability and allowing for alternative avenues to complex topics and processes of negotiation. Granting insight into the merging of the design of real and virtual environments, this volume offers an invaluable platform for further debate.

The Mereological City
Regular price $40.00 Save $-40.00In a positive departure from modernism, the work of the art critic and urbanist Ludwig Hilberseimer offers schemata towards the design for the city itself: its mereological composition.
The resonance of parts unfolds to an alternative of a purely contrasting equation of form and content. It reminds us, that when the ground (gr.: logos) of the city is defined by its parts (gr.: meros), its architecture, the city in turn always also is part of the architecture as its desire.
»The Mereological City« introduces a mereological methodology and contributes to an ongoing discussion about an ecological form of urban design.
