Como polvo en el viento / Like Dust in the Wind
ENGLISH DESCRIPTION
The secrets that the island holds will only be revealed by exile. The day starts badly for Adela, a young New Yorker of Cuban descent, when she gets a call from her mother. They have been angry for more than a year, because Adela has not only moved to Miami, but also lives with Marcos, a young man from Havana who has recently arrived in the United States who has completely seduced her and whom, because of his origin, her mother rejects. Marcos tells Adela stories of his childhood on the island, surrounded by a group of friends of his parents, called the Clan, and shows her a photo of the last meal they had had together twenty-five years ago as a child. Adela, who sensed that the day was going to go wrong, discovers someone familiar between the faces. And an abyss opens up beneath their feet. Como polvo en el viento (Like Dust in the Wind) is the story of a group of friends who have survived a fate of exile and dispersion, in Barcelona, in the extreme northwest of the United States, in Madrid, in Puerto Rico, in Buenos Aires...What has life done to them, who had loved each other so much? What has happened to those who left and those who decided to stay? How has time changed you? Will the magnetism of the feeling of belonging, the strength of affections, bring them together again? Or are their lives already dust in the wind? In the trauma of diaspora and the disintegration of bonds, this novel is also a hymn to friendship, to the invisible and powerful threads of love and old loyalties. A dazzling novel, a moving human portrait, another masterpiece by Leonardo Padura.

In Agatha Christie’s baffling detective story, Nemesis, a letter from a dead man instructs Miss Marple how to conduct an investigation into a puzzlingly unspecific crime. In utter disbelief, Miss Marple read the letter addressed to her from the recently deceased Mr. Rafiel—an acquaintance she had met briefly on her travels. He had left instructions for her to investigate a crime after his death. The only problem was, he had failed to tell her who was involved or where and when the crime had been committed. It was most intriguing. Soon she is faced with a new crime—the ultimate crime—murder. It seems someone is adamant that past evils remained buried. . . .
Amigo imaginario / Imaginary Friend
—Joe Hill, autor bestseller del New York Times

Elogio de las manos / Praise of the Hands

There they received neighbors and friends; With them they shared food, music, work and laughter. There the family came to live with a dozen chickens, several horses and donkeys, two dogs and some mice. They never lost sight of the fact that the bulldozers would eventually arrive, which turned the experience in that house into an eloquent metaphor for life: we surrender to it even though we know that it ends.Elogio de las manos is a novel as extraordinary as the life adventures of its protagonists, a story in which there is room for adventure, reflection and remembrance. Eclipse
Regular price $20.00 Save $-20.00In the late fifteenth century, a young Dominican friar sets out on a journey from Paris to Florence in search of manuscripts of pre-Christian philosophy. Along the way, he encounters an ascetic alchemist in a small village. As the young man falls under the spell of the alchemist’s quest for enlightenment, a series of disasters—culminating in a total solar eclipse—strikes the village, with profound consequences.
Keiichiro Hirano’s Eclipse was a meteoric literary sensation when it first appeared in 1998. Its author, still an undergraduate, was hailed as a prodigy; the book received Japan’s most prestigious literary award, the Akutagawa Prize, and became a bestseller. Set on the eve of the Renaissance in Europe, Eclipse depicts a society that is on the surface vastly different from modern-day Japan. Yet its account of a challenge to dualistic binaries and ossified worldviews holds striking contemporary resonance and philosophical depth. Taking the form of a memoir, Eclipse brings together an evocative portrayal of its historical setting, including the lore of medieval alchemy, with a rich literary lexicon, lush imagery, and psychological intricacy. This vivid translation offers Anglophone readers a vital work by one of Japan’s most distinctive voices.

On New Year’s Eve, in 1923, someone walked into Michelle “Mickey” McFadden’s queer speakeasy hidden beneath the Big City Little Theater and shot her and her dog, EZ, dead. Or . . . sort of, mostly, kind of dead, maybe? Because instead of crossing over, they become trapped within the bar’s cinderblock walls. And though EZ eventually manages to wriggle his way free, Mickey remains, her spirit frozen in time.
In 2022, employees of the Big City Little Theater begin encountering a stray dog sneaking in and around the premises. When Ciara, the theater’s bookkeeper, saves the dog from being hit by a truck, she begins to suspect there’s something odd about the mysterious canine and makes it her mission to catch him and either return him to his owners or keep him as her own.
That is until Ciara and her friends happen upon the sealed-up speakeasy in the theater’s subbasement —and find the dog inside. But how did he get in there when the door was locked? And why are there bullet holes in the otherwise beautifully preserved bar? Their discovery launches them on the investigation of a lifetime, complete with an ancient murder to solve, strange occurrences to explain, and a missing person to find.
When Mickey’s spirit, which has been trapped in the mysterious in-between for the past hundred years, begins to find her way out, she and Ciara finally come face-to-face. And it’s more than the speakeasy’s old wiring that makes sparks fly. Ciara’s falling hard for Mickey and Mickey for her. Can they solve the murder and figure out how EZ returned to the world of the living before the clock strikes midnight on the next New Year’s Eve?
Because if they don’t, they’re pretty certain Mickey’s time will finally be up—this time for good.

Until one day her life seems to change: thanks to a friend’s recommendation, and despite not knowing anything about social media, she is hired to work for Gloria, an 18-year-old influencer with millions of followers.
Slowly, Maia understands that her disdain for the world of influencers is precisely why she was chosen for the job: as an outsider, Maia can keep Gloria grounded, tethered to reality—remind her that the image she projects online is only an illusion.
As the two women weave a complex and intense relationship, however, it is Maia’s life that starts to unravel. Exposed to the tricks and hypocrisy of social media, Maia is increasingly unable to avoid confronting the lies she’s been telling herself. The closer she gets to Gloria, the more porous the boundary between their feelings and identities becomes, in a dangerous game of mirrors that threatens Maia’s very sense of self.
Sharp, wry, and absorbing, The Other Profile is a revealing exploration of the light and dark of human relationships in the digital age.
The Tokyo Suite
Regular price $17.00 Save $-17.00A NEW YORK TIMES EDITORS’ CHOICE
The English-language debut of one of the most exciting voices in contemporary Brazilian literature, The Tokyo Suite is a gripping exploration of the complexities of modern family dynamics and the tensions hiding just under the surface of ordinary lives.
It’s a seemingly ordinary morning when Maju, a nanny, boards a bus with Cora, the young girl she’s been caring for, and disappears. The abduction, an act as impulsive as it is extreme, sets off a series of events that will force each character to confront their deepest fears and desires.
Fernanda, Cora's mother, is a successful executive who is so engulfed in her own personal crisis that she initially fails to notice her daughter's disappearance. Her marriage is strained, and she finds solace in an affair, distancing herself further from her family. Meanwhile, her husband, overwhelmed by the complexities of their domestic life, remains emotionally detached. As Maju navigates the streets of São Paulo with Cora, the “white army” of nannies, a term coined by Fernanda, seems to watch her every move, heightening her sense of paranoia and urgency.
Madalosso’s narrative delves deep into the human psyche, examining themes of maternal guilt, societal expectations, and the search for personal identity. Rich and multi-layered, The Tokyo Suite is a poignant and gripping tale that captures the essence of modern urban life and the lengths to which people will go to reclaim a sense of control and meaning in their lives.

Burnt-out from a demanding job and a bustling life in the city, Emelie has left town to spend a few days in the country. Once there, in the peaceful, verdant hills, down by the river she encounters a mysterious group of seven people, each with personal stories full of pain, alienation, and the longing to live differently. They are misfits, each in their own way, and all led by the enigmatic and charismatic Sara.
How did they end up there? Are they content with the rigid roles they’ve been assigned? And what happens when an outsider appears and is initially drawn to their alternative lifestyle but cannot help but stir things up?
A masterful blend of humor, emotion, unforgettable characters, and sharp social commentary, The Colony is a magnetic and deeply touching story about love, community, and the unfathomable power we other others and that others have over us.
★ “Norlin’s writing (as translated by Olsson) is clever and incisive, poking fun at modern society and the woodland community in equal measure... Ultimately, this is a treatise on humanity, on the things people need and the power and frailty of human connection. This is a novel that will stick with you.”—Kirkus Reviews (Starred Review)

Bold, meditative, theatrical, this new novel is an inventive, poetic portrait of lovers and siblings as it questions the stories we have been told which may or may not be true.
I Am Homeless If This Is Not My Home takes us through a trap door, into a windswept, imagined journey to the tragic-comic landscape that is, unmistakably, the world of Lorrie Moore.

Ventanas de Manhattan / Windows of Manhattan
ENGLISH DESCRIPTION
"I would like to remember each of my walks and all the windows I have been looking out of in Manhattan..." With this purpose, Antonio Muñoz Molina in the first person, writer and character at the same time, visits in these pages the most personal corners of New York. He thus becomes an observer and accomplice of a reality close to fiction that shapes our vital and cultural imaginary. The result of his prolonged stays over several years, this book is a passionate hymn to the city of contrasts par excellence.
New York hides as many faces as it exhibits windows: those of the sets of Broadway musicals, those of the illuminated buildings on the other side of Central Park, those that fell with the Twin Towers on September 11, those crossed out with planks on the dark reverse of the Bronx or Harlem. The window is the frame of a painting by Hopper, a watercolor by Katz, the absent presence in a film by Hitchcock or the literature of Cheever, the echo of the jazz of Duke Ellington or John Coltrane.
Like Ardor guerrero and Sefarad, this book participates both in the novel and in the recounting of real events: what predominates in it is, on the one hand, the enveloping nature of a style as suggestive and a timbre of voice as personal as those that have been characterizing the author since his beginnings, brought here to a deployed and sovereign maturity, and, on the other hand, an ethical and aesthetic attitude towards the nightmare and wonder of the great city that, in the line of Lorca in Poet in New York, he constructs with true material a hallucination and a complex moral fable.

Frank Herbert’s magnificent Dune chronicle sprawls across countless planets and tens of millennia. In creating the Dune universe, he created one of the richest and most complex universes ever created in science-fiction—an expanding saga that transports readers to a world of wonder that equally mirrors many political and theological issues plaguing our own societies.
Herbert's true genius was in creating this extremely complex, vast universe in such intricate detail that it all feels real to readers and the issues and themes that his characters deal with are easily identifiable as problems we all face today.
While the main novels in this remarkable saga concentrate on major events and major characters, a universe this complex begs for additional stories, filling in all the details that may sometimes get overlooked in the telling of the main saga.
Tales of Dune collects eight such stories, ranging from the period of the Butlerian Jihad (the revolt against "thinking" machines, more than 10,000 years before the events of Dune), to the time of young Paul Atreides under the tutelage of the Ginaz Swordmaster, Duncan Idaho, to a story set during the events of the novel Dune, to the very end of Frank Herbert’s epic future history.
Here are some of the missing pieces from one of the grandest sagas science fiction has ever seen.

Scenes of Bohemian Life
Regular price $24.95 Save $-24.95First published in 1851, Henry Murger’sScènes de la vie de bohèmebrought together the stories he had written for a small arts newspaper in Paris. These semi-fictionalized tales, drawn from the daily lives of Murger and his friends, portray the struggles and celebrations, the loves and losses, of young writers and artists as they eked out an existence on the impoverished margins of society. While the nineteenth-century Parisian setting is fascinating in itself, the stories have retained their contemporary relevance as the continuing popularity of Puccini’s opera adaptation (La Bohème) and the Broadway success of Jonathan Larson’s Rent—both based on Murger’s stories—have demonstrated.
Life in bohemia continues to attract young people in great numbers, just as it has done for almost two centuries, and it is Murger’s bohemia, with all its energy and eccentricities, that underlies that appeal. Balancing humor and despair, and optimism and desperation, Murger’s characters, much like today’s bohemians, manage to confound landlords and bill collectors, endure cold and hunger, find love and lose it, party without restraint and confront the devastating deaths of friends and lovers.
With this new translation, readers can once again encounter the point of origin for the bohemian cultures that have flourished ever since, not only the source for Puccini’s and Larson’s phenomenally popular musical works as well as for numerous films and songs over many decades but also a classic work of literature that will re-introduce English readers to Rodolphe and Mimi, Marcel and Musette, Schaunard and Colline, after too long an absence.

SOON TO BE A MAJOR MOTION PICTURE STARRING BLAKE LIVELY.
In this “brave and heartbreaking novel that digs its claws into you and doesn’t let go, long after you’ve finished it”. Anna Todd, New York Times bestselling author
From the #1 New York Times bestselling author of All Your Perfects, a workaholic with a too-good-to-be-true romance can’t stop thinking about her first love.
Lily hasn’t always had it easy, but that’s never stopped her from working hard for the life she wants. She’s come a long way from the small town where she grew up—she graduated from college, moved to Boston, and started her own business. And when she feels a spark with a gorgeous neurosurgeon named Ryle Kincaid, everything in Lily’s life seems too good to be true.
Ryle is assertive, stubborn, maybe even a little arrogant. He’s also sensitive, brilliant, and has a total soft spot for Lily. And the way he looks in scrubs certainly doesn’t hurt. Lily can’t get him out of her head. But Ryle’s complete aversion to relationships is disturbing. Even as Lily finds herself becoming the exception to his “no dating” rule, she can’t help but wonder what made him that way in the first place.
As questions about her new relationship overwhelm her, so do thoughts of Atlas Corrigan—her first love and a link to the past she left behind. He was her kindred spirit, her protector. When Atlas suddenly reappears, everything Lily has built with Ryle is threatened.
An honest, evocative, and tender novel, It Ends with Us is “a glorious and touching read, a forever keeper. The kind of book that gets handed down”.USA Today.

In rural Tennessee, two young people struggle to make a life in a town rife with poverty, guns, and alcohol.
"Holding On To Nothing is a resonant song of the South, all whiskey, bluegrass, Dolly Parton, tobacco fields, and women who know better but still fall for the lowdown men whom they know will disappoint them."—Lauren Groff, National Book Award finalist author of Fates and Furies and Florida
Lucy Kilgore has her bags packed for her escape from her rural Tennessee upbringing, but a drunken mistake forever tethers her to the town and one of its least-admired residents, Jeptha Taylor, who becomes the father of her child. Together, these two young people work to form a family, though neither has any idea how to accomplish that, and the odds are against them in a place with little to offer other than bluegrass music, tobacco fields, and a Walmart full of beer and firearms for the hunting season. Their path is harrowing, but Lucy and Jeptha are characters to love, and readers will root for their success in a novel so riveting that no one will want to turn out the light until they know whether this family will survive.
This new paperback edition features a readers' guide in the back of the book with questions for discussion and an interview with the author.
Whisper to the Wind
Regular price $20.95 Save $-20.95Trailblazing author, Marianne K. Martin asks, “How much are you willing to sacrifice to protect your students and the woman you love?” in this powerful and timely novel.
Johanna Beals decided sixteen years ago to sacrifice everything to raise her daughter Kayla as a single mother. She knew it was the right decision even when it led to lonely nights and broken relationships, and even when adolescent secrets challenged their mother/daughter bond. But the decision to go it alone seems easy compared to the one she is about to face.
Secrets and bouts of teenage angst don’t only challenge parents. English teacher, Miya James, has dealt with her fair share of them over the years. But Kayla Beals seems to be whispering to the wind, an act that stirs uncomfortable memories of Miya’s fractured childhood. As the school year progresses, she finds she wasn’t prepared for this student, for her mother, or for the sparks that add fuel to the teeming atmosphere of unrest, bullying, and homophobia that leaves her school district grappling with life-changing decisions for everyone involved.

Mexico was growing vertiginously, the world was going through a distressing moment, Mexico City was becoming a modern metropolis, everything seemed within reach, the air had a smell of novelty. Life was an adventure, children played war in the Middle East: battles in the Middle East, fought in earthy courtyards. It was the time when Carlos dreamed and walked the streets of the Roma neighborhood with impatience typical of his age. Although the world was spinning quickly, nothing was as decisive for him as the day he met his best friend's mother and in her he discovered the resentments that accompany first love and put an end to childhood.
A timeless work of Mexican and universal literature, José Emilio Pacheco recreates an era – that of a country that was losing its innocence – and rescues that moment when we said goodbye to childhood to throw ourselves into the lacerating challenge that is growing up.

In the title piece of this volume (Xavier Villaurrutia Prize), Jorge, a boy who does not understand why life is the way it is, grows up in a society of double standards whose contradictions are accentuated as he is consumed by love for a young woman older than him. This short novel is followed by the stories "La zarpa", where a woman confesses to a priest the decisions she made in the past; "La fiesta brava" (Bullfighting), which narrates the life of an underrated writer who receives one last chance; "Langerhaus", in which mystery haunts a deceased person that no one seems to remember; «Tenga para que se entretenga» (Have to Keep You Entertained), where the same reader must connect the dots to solve the case of a missing child and, finally, «Cuando salí de La Habana, válgame Dios» (When I left Havana, God Bless Me), in which a nervous sales agent falls in love on a trip on the high seas.
This unclassifiable book wanders through fantasy, detective literature, the coming-of-age novel, realism and symbolism, and in doing so, confirms why José Emilio Pacheco's work is universal.

Narrated from a unique and heartbreaking first-person voice, La mala costumbre covers the adolescence of a girl trapped in a body she does not know how to inhabit, who tries to understand herself and the world in which she lives, from her childhood in a working-class family in the neighborhood of San Blas, devastated by heroin in the eighties, to the clandestine nights in the center of Madrid in the nineties. As in a bastard version of the hero's journey, junkies, pop divas and fallen angels accompany her on a life journey in which, in the end, it will be other women who help her overcome the violence she encounters at every step.

"Don’t underestimate this new novelist. She’s jump-starting the year with a smart romantic comedy that lures us in with laughter and keeps us hooked with a fantastically engaging story." —The Washington Post
A blazing talent debuts with the tale of a status-driven wedding planner grappling with her social ambitions, absent mother, and Puerto Rican roots—all in the wake of Hurricane Maria.
It's 2017, and Olga and her brother, Pedro “Prieto” Acevedo, are boldfaced names in their hometown of New York. Prieto is a popular congressman representing their gentrifying Latinx neighborhood in Brooklyn, while Olga is the tony wedding planner for Manhattan’s power brokers.
Despite their alluring public lives, behind closed doors things are far less rosy. Sure, Olga can orchestrate the love stories of the 1 percent but she can’t seem to find her own. . . until she meets Matteo, who forces her to confront the effects of long-held family secrets.
Olga and Prieto’s mother, Blanca, a Young Lord turned radical, abandoned her children to advance a militant political cause, leaving them to be raised by their grandmother. Now, with the winds of hurricane season, Blanca has come barreling back into their lives.
Set against the backdrop of New York City in the months surrounding the most devastating hurricane in Puerto Rico’s history, Xochitl Gonzalez’s Olga Dies Dreaming is a story that examines political corruption, familial strife, and the very notion of the American dream—all while asking what it really means to weather a storm.

As such, Blackburn is a sly, witty, and more or less reliable raconteur of the last thirty something years of the Bay Area’s radical bohemia and bookselling. And in the tradition of Ian Rankin’s Edinburgh, and Jean-Claude Izzo’s Marseilles, bears uncomfortable witness to Berkeley’s descent from countercultural paradise to neoliberal inferno.

The Colors of April
Regular price $20.00 Save $-20.00Fifty years after the end of the Vietnam War, literary voices of the Vietnamese-American diaspora as well as Vietnam-based authors speak to the experience of those who left and those who stayed in THE COLORS OF APRIL, a collection of new short fiction curated by award-winning translators and editors Quan Manh Ha and Cab Tran.
For much of the twentieth century, Vietnam played an outsized role on the global stage, charting the destinies of superpowers and reshaping the world’s politics. Now fifty years after the end of the Vietnam War comes an anthology of fiction that finally speaks to the global Vietnamese experience: voices of both those who left and those who stayed, what was gained and lost in the half century since, and—for the generations that followed—what it means to be Vietnamese.
More than two dozen distinct literary voices are featured in this collection, including Viet Thanh Nguyen (Pulitzer Prize winner, The Sympathizer), Andrew Lam (PEN/Beyond Margins Award winner, Perfume Dreams), Barbara Tran (Lannan Foundation Award winner, In the Mynah Bird's Own Words), Vu Tran (Whiting Award winner, Dragonfish) and many more.
The stories are as diverse in style, tone, and subject matter as the ancestral lands of the Vietnamese people. From the rubble of the Ancient Citadel in Quảng Trị to the makeshift orphanages outside Sài Gòn, from Palo Alto to a tony Lincoln Park apartment in Chicago, the narratives straddle continents and generations, the political as well as the personal. But what they share is much greater than their differences. They speak to a common language, to a culture steeped in history and myth and storytelling that vividly captures the enduring spirit of the Vietnamese people.
Editor Quan Manh Ha is Professor of English at the University of Montana and the co-translator of Other Moons: Vietnamese Short Stories of the American War and Its Aftermath, among other titles. Co-editor Cab Tran holds an MFA from University of Michigan’s Helen Zell Writers’ Program. His fiction and nonfiction have appeared in Vagabond: Bulgaria’s English Monthly, Black Warrior Review, The Iconoclast, and elsewhere. He teaches fiction for Gotham Writers Workshop. In 2023, Ha and Tran co-translated and co-edited Bảo Ninh’s Hà Nội at Midnight.

—Wall Street Journal
Outermark is a haunting and bittersweet story about the power of the places that shape us from Jason Brown, winner of the Maine Book Award, “a pure and accomplished talent” (New York Times).
The tiny, fictional island of Outermark sits thirty miles off the coast in the waters between Maine and Nova Scotia. When Corson Wills, one of the last people to have lived on the island, is asked to recount its history, he begins by describing it as "a rock in the ocean where no one lives anymore.” Corson’s tale, and those of his ancestors who also lived there, ferry the reader between the 1980s, when lobster fishing is the only remaining industry, and the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries, days of great sailing ships to the East Indies but also of conflicts between the earliest Native residents and newly arrived colonial settlers.
During Corson’s boyhood, life on the island becomes increasingly tenuous as the lobster stocks decline and debt and hard feelings abound. Some of the islanders have started to run drugs, and many others have abandoned their homes to move to the mainland. Tensions between neighbors reach a tipping point the night of a catastrophic house fire. Residents of Outermark suffer the loss of livelihood and community that many in small towns have experienced in the twentieth and twenty-first centuries. As the stories in Outermark reveal, as impossible as life was on the island, life off of it never feels quite right for those who had no choice but to leave it behind.

Full of humor, pathos, and pop cultural references, Eugene Nadelman is a tale of young love and American manners in the era of Ronald Reagan and MTV—written in the witty sonnet form of Alexander Pushkin’s Eugene Onegin.
It’s 1982, and teenaged Eugene attends his cousin’s bar mitzvah in suburban Philadelphia. There he meets a kindred spirit in the savvy, sensitive Abigail. But when Eugene’s best friend also becomes smitten with Abby, a tragic rivalry ensues and, just as in the Pushkin poem, one character kills another in a duel. (Well, in a Dungeons & Dragons game, in this case.)
Eugene and Abby’s romance deepens against a backdrop of '80s music, fashion, and VHS rentals—with serious world events like AIDS and the Cold War hovering overhead. But when Eugene leaves for sleepaway camp and Abby for Europe, temptations abound, and one question becomes paramount: can their love survive a summer separation?

Three gay men in pre-Stonewall New York City find their fates thrown together in the police raid of a Village bar.
Roger Moorhouse is a Wall Street banker and Westchester family man with a preciously guarded secret. As the shouting begins and flashlights blaze in his face, the life he’s carefully curated over the years—a fancy new office overlooking lower Broadway, a house in Beechmont Woods, his wife and children—is about to come crashing down around him.
Columbia literature professor Julian Prince lives a comparatively uncloseted life when he finds his first committed relationship tested to its limits. How could he explain to Gus, a fearless young artist, that he couldn’t stay with him that weekend because the woman who was still technically Julian’s fiancée would be visiting? But when Gus is struck unconscious by a police baton, Julian comes out of hiding to protect him, even if exposure means losing everything.
For Danny Duffy, an Irish kid from the Bronx with a sassy mouth and a diverse group of friends, the raid is a galvanizing, Spartacus moment. Danny doesn’t have too much left to lose; his family has just disowned him. But once his name appears in the newspaper, he’ll be fired from his job at Sloan’s Supermarket, where he’s risen to assistant manager of produce, and begin a journey that veers between political enlightenment and violent revenge.
The three men find themselves in a police wagon together, their hidden lives threatened to be revealed to the world. Blackmail, a private investigator, Gus’s disappearance, and Danny’s quest for retribution propel Disorderly Men to its piercing conclusion, as each man meets the boundaries of his own fear, love, and shame. The stakes for each are different, but all of them confront a fundamental question: How much happiness is he allowed to have . . . and what share of it will he lay claim to?
Rockin' the Bronx
Regular price $19.95 Save $-19.95Rockin’ The Bronx vividly transports readers to the vibrant and chaotic world of 1980s Bronx, where Irish immigrants forged a new community amidst the backdrop of political upheaval and cultural transformation. Larry Kirwan, leader of the revolutionary band Black 47, blends drama, passion, and musical evolution into a narrative that captures the essence of an era defined by its challenges and triumphs. Through the eyes of characters like the groundbreaking gay hero, a book-loving, hard-hitting immigrant with IRA roots, and the central couple, Seán and Mary, who navigate this raucous landscape, Kirwan explores the intersecting worlds of personal identity and communal struggle. Set during significant historical moments—the deaths of John Lennon and Bobby Sands, the AIDS crisis, and the birth of new musical movements—this novel not only tells the story of its characters but also of a neighborhood echoing with the rhythms of change. As these Irish immigrants carve out their destinies, they leave behind a legacy of resilience and rebirth, encapsulated in a narrative that moves irrepressibly to the beat of the 1980s. Rockin' The Bronx is more than a novel; it’s a chronicle of a time when being Irish in New York could mean everything from strapping on a Stratocaster to knocking down walls both structural and cultural.

Wind/Pinball, a unique two-in-one volume, includes, on one side, Murakami’s first novel Hear the Wind Sing. When you flip the book over, you can read his second novel, Pinball, 1973. Each book has its own stunning cover.
In the spring of 1978, a young Haruki Murakami sat down at his kitchen table and began to write. The result: two remarkable short novels that launched the career of one of the most acclaimed authors of our time.
These powerful, at times surreal, works about two young men coming of age—the unnamed narrator and his friend the Rat—are stories of loneliness, obsession, and eroticism. They bear all the hallmarks of Murakami’s later books, and form the first two-thirds, with A Wild Sheep Chase, of the trilogy of the Rat.
Wind/Pinball gives us a fascinating insight into a great writer’s beginnings.

A PEOPLE Magazine Must-Read Book for Fall 2023 | An Esquire Best Book of Fall 2023 | A Guardian Biggest New Book of 2023 | A LitHub Most Anticipated Book of 2023
An imaginative, feminist, and brilliantly relevant-to-today retelling of Orwell’s 1984, from the point of view of Winston Smith’s lover, Julia, by critically acclaimed novelist Sandra Newman.
Julia Worthing is a mechanic, working in the Fiction Department at the Ministry of Truth. It’s 1984, and Britain (now called Airstrip One) has long been absorbed into the larger trans-Atlantic nation of Oceania. Oceania has been at war for as long as anyone can remember, and is ruled by an ultra-totalitarian Party, whose leader is a quasi-mythical figure called Big Brother. In short, everything about this world is as it is in Orwell’s 1984.
All her life, Julia has known only Oceania, and, until she meets Winston Smith, she has never imagined anything else. She is an ideal citizen: cheerfully cynical, always ready with a bribe, piously repeating every political slogan while believing in nothing. She routinely breaks the rules, but also collaborates with the regime when necessary. Everyone likes Julia.
Then one day she finds herself walking toward Winston Smith in a corridor and impulsively slips him a note, setting in motion the devastating, unforgettable events of the classic story. Julia takes us on a surprising journey through Orwell’s now-iconic dystopia, with twists that reveal unexpected sides not only to Julia, but to other familiar figures in the 1984 universe. This unique perspective lays bare our own world in haunting and provocative ways, just as the original did almost seventy-five years ago.

She fears the dark. He rules it. Her dresses are too tight, her heels too tall. She laughs too loudly, eats without decorum, and mixes up most sayings in the book. Little do most know it’s just a sparkly disguise, there to hide one panic attack at a time. Nobody can crack Gianna’s facade . . . no one anyway, until he comes along.
Most see a paragon of morality; a special agent upholding the law. In the New York underworld, others know him as a hustler, a killer, his nature as cold as the heart of ice in his chest. Christian Allister has always followed the life plan he’d envisioned in his youth, beneath the harsh lights of a frigid, damp cell. With a proclivity for order and the number three, he’s never been tempted to veer off course. But perhaps one should never say never . . .
One winter night and their lives intertwine. She hates him—his stone-cold demeanor, his arrogance and too-perceptive eye—but over the years, even as their games consist of insulting each other’s looks and intelligence, she begins to live to play with him. Nowhere in Christian’s plans had he ever prepared for Gianna. She’s chaos embodied, not his type, and married, but none of that can stop his eyes from following her wherever she goes. All along, she doesn’t even know that she’s his—his frustration, his fascination. His maddest obsession.

A masterful debut about the passage of time, bonds and motherhood.
«Ana Navajas transforms the diary of a housewife into an original autofiction with poetic flashes.» Clarín
"With sobriety, emotion, irony and truth, Navajas takes advantage of death to reflect on caring for and being cared for, on being a daughter as an active and archetypically feminine condition as being a mother." Tamara Tenenbaum
You Are Very Quiet Today follows in the footsteps of the narrator in Buenos Aires after the death of her mother and her occasional trips to the provinces to visit her father, who now lives alone in the house where she grew up. The reader sees her in different roles: as a mother of two, a spouse, a daughter, a sister, but also as a child without a mother. Over the years she begins to wonder who she is when she is alone, without having to take care of anyone else, when she stops attending to the needs of the people around her.
Remembering her childhood, her relationships with her siblings and her mother, noticing that she is no closer to her father now than she was before she was widowed, she also sees her children grow up. Her two daughters, Rosa and Elena, no longer need much from her, but the youngest, Pedro, has strange obsessions and suffers a lot. And in front of her, she feels that she has less and less in common with her husband, which will lead her to rethink her marriage.
"Much is said about the literature of the self, about its value. Ana Navajas's writing shines in this genre for its gentle honesty: she does not hide her wounds, but neither does she let them bleed in a morbid gloating. Each moment he narrates has a place for reflection, for irony and above all for tenderness" (Page 12).

Me equivoqué.
ENGLISH DESCRIPTION
If love is a game, these guys are playing to win.
My name is Rachel Price, and two months ago, I walked away from the perfect man. Sweet and funny, and so hot it should be illegal—we shared one magical night. No names. No strings. I never thought I’d see him again.
I was wrong. It turns out Mr. Perfect is the playboy grinder for the Jacksonville Rays, the NHL’s hottest new hockey team…and I’m his new physical therapist. Oh, and the jerk doesn’t even recognize me!
This fellowship is going to be the longest ten months of my life. Mr. Perfect Mistake will do anything to get back on my good side. Meanwhile, his best friend is the surly new equipment manager always riding my case. Worst of all, I’ve got an uncooperative goalie who thinks I can’t tell he’s hiding an injury!
This is my chance to prove myself, and I’m not risking it for anything. But with one unexpected night, one secret revealed, these men are ready to test all my limits. I can’t fall for a player…let alone three.
