A Friend to Nature
Regular price $14.95 Sale price $11.96 Save $2.99Celebrate the natural world and with practical activities and ideas to help the wildlife and the environment on your doorstep and worldwide.
"This is my pledge, my promise, my vow,
Lasting forever, starting now:
I'll be a friend to nature."
Starting with a pledge in poetic form, this book is a call to arms for the next generation of peaceful eco warriors. Broken down into sections of activities, each lyrically relates back to the metaphor of being a friend to nature.
The activities themselves are short, easy, and fun, with a few more extensive projects mixed in. These are interspersed with nature quotes, poetry, and other thought-provoking musings, as well as pieces of simple non-fiction information, such as the life cycle of a frog, a butterfly, a cross section of a flowering plant, and why you should always wish on a dandelion clock.
The final section explores what nature can give back to us in turn; that if we look after the natural world, we will always have a friend in nature - a space to be calm, to pause and think, to recharge, to bring us joy, amusement, and health.

Aesop's Fables
Regular price $24.95 Sale price $19.96 Save $4.99It's never too soon to share your favorite classics with the next generation...
Aesop's Fables belong to every one of us. They were once simply the words of a slave; a man who lived 600 years before Christ. They were written down by a Greek, and then a Roman, and they spread, like the armies of Rome, across the known world. They were told around heathen campfires, and noble hearths; whispered in sacred monasteries and churches; lectured in Victorian school rooms and acted out by children at play.
Each little fable is bound up with 2000 years of wisdom and truth. From these we know that a mouse is too weak to withstand the strength of a lion, yet too mighty to be bound by ropes. We learn that the violence of the North Wind is no match for the gentle beaming of the unrelenting Sun. We know in our hearts that the sheep must push through life, and try to overcome its many dangers, that the wolf will trick and deceive to survive, and that we cannot pretend to understand the logic of the gods if we do not hold ourselves to the same standard.
Therefore, Aesop's Fables belong to all of us, as Stone Age cave paintings belong, not to the artist, but to human civilization. It is a book about what it is to be human, cherished by each generation and passed on to the next.

All Things Change
Regular price $16.95 Sale price $13.56 Save $3.39Everything changes, from the birth of new stars to the endlessly shifting tides and tiniest life cycle.
Everything in this universe changes. Even us. Sometimes we’re lucky enough to see these changes happen, while others take many lifetimes. Explore the awe-inspiring processes of change in the natural world, from the life of a bright shining star, the endless motion of the tides, and a caterpillar transforming into something new, to our own changing thoughts and feelings.
All Things Change is a lyrical and beautifully illustrated book looking at the many different processes of change in the natural world, covering geology, ecology, biology and more. It also embraces the philosophical topic of change - how do we approach changes that make us feel sad? How do we cope with changes we can't control?
Ideal for children to explore independently or with parents, it holds a special appeal for anyone struggling to find stability in a rapidly changing world.
From the book:
In everyone's life, change is going to happen, one way or another. Learning to accept it, and make the changes you want to, is very useful. Preparing and planning for a change helps you cope with it when it comes. Getting used to a change can take time, but bit by bit, it gets easier.
Changes can bring new, wonderful opportunities, and make life more interesting. They can lead to new discoveries and take you to places you never imagined! And, although change can be hard, it’s much better than nothing ever changing at all.

Gulliver's Travels
Regular price $24.99 Sale price $19.99 Save $5.00A full-color illustrated edition of one of the world's best loved stories, Gulliver’s Travels, illustrated by world-renowned illustrator Robert Ingpen.
“Ingpen's drawings are utterly compelling”—Michael Morpurgo
When Lemuel Gulliver, a ship's surgeon, sets off on the high seas in search of adventure, things never seem to go quite according to plan. Through a series of disasters and misadventures, he finds himself cast upon strange islands whose inhabitants are of the most unusual size, and the most confusing philosophies.
Gulliver's Travels has been loved by many generations of readers for almost 300 years, and the telling of the misfortunes and pleasures of its eponymous hero is one of Jonathan Swift's most enduring legacies.
The perfect gift for a curious mind. Share your beloved childhood stories with the next generation!
From the Illustrator’s Note:
I found it a challenge to depict the events of Gulliver’s voyages, as he is often either too big or too small for his surroundings. Imagining these in pictures was my main focus in the demanding task of illustrating the writings of Jonathan Swift. Swift was writing three hundred years ago, so for his Gulliver’s Travels to meet the needs of a modern reader, parts of his book have been adapted, and then illustrated to help the adventures spring to life. This is what we have fondly attempted to do in this new edition of the enduring story.

From the Backmatter:
It was towards the end of Defoe’s life that he wrote his great novels. By far the most famous of his works is Robinson Crusoe. In 1966 this island was renamed Robinson Crusoe Island.Defoe died on 24 April 1731, possibly in hiding from those to whom he owed money. His cause of death was probably a stroke. He was buried in Bunhill Fields in London and in 1870 a statue was erected there in his memory..

The Jungle Book: Rikki-Tikki-Tavi
Regular price $16.99 Sale price $13.59 Save $3.40Originally published as part of Kipling's famous The Jungle Book, the story of Rikki Tikki Tavi, the little mongoose rescued by a family when he was half-drowned in a storm, has been an enduring favourite with young and old for more than half a century.
Rikki, of course, grows to become a family pet and repays the kindness of his rescuers by defending them from the evil cobras that lurk in their garden. Like Kipling's other magical tales from India, Rikki Tikki Tavi has inspired Robert Ingpen to achieve some of his most amazing depictions of wildlife. Rikki and the other creatures are brought to life as never before although, as Robert says 'I have tried to tread as lightly as I can with my images and hope I have left enough space for the reader to continue to make the adventure that Kipling created during his time in India.' This new edition of Kipling's classic story includes many new illustrations by Robert Ingpen created especially for this book.
